Yogyakarta Opens Registration for International Scout Program December Traditional Odyssey 2026

Yogyakarta — The Yogyakarta Rover Scout Council has officially launched the international scouting and cultural exchange program December Traditional Odyssey 2026, inviting scouts from around the world to experience the rich heritage of Yogyakarta from 16–22 December 2026.

Entering its 55th edition, the annual event is one of the most prestigious scouting traditions in Yogyakarta. Originally known as Pengembaraan Desember Tradisional (PDT), the program combines adventure, cultural exploration, historical learning, and international friendship through a unique journey across the city’s heritage sites and cultural landmarks.

This year’s theme, “Cosmological Axis of Yogyakarta,” highlights the UNESCO-recognized cultural landscape that stretches from Mount Merapi through the Yogyakarta Royal Palace to the southern coast. The program aims to introduce participants to the philosophical values, history, and living traditions that shape Yogyakarta’s identity.

Throughout the program, participants will take part in a wide range of educational and cultural activities. These include visits to the Yogyakarta Royal Palace (Keraton Yogyakarta), Sonobudoyo Museum, Kotagede Heritage Area, and the magnificent Prambanan Temple, one of Indonesia’s most iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The cultural immersion experience will also allow participants to learn traditional Javanese arts and crafts through hands-on activities such as Batik Craft Experience, Silver Craft Education, and traditional food-making workshops featuring local delicacies such as Bakpia and Kipo.

Beyond cultural exploration, the event offers unique scouting experiences designed to strengthen leadership, teamwork, and resilience. Participants will join a 15-kilometer Scout Trek Experience, traditional games, and a Focused Group Discussion on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) involving scout leaders and young changemakers.

Several signature events have been prepared to create memorable experiences for participants. These include the Opening Ceremony at Parangkusumo Beach, located along the philosophical axis of Yogyakarta, the Welcome Night, the Wiradharma Special Night, and a traditional Javanese costume photo session in the famous Malioboro area.

Participants will also enjoy authentic culinary experiences, including a visit to the renowned Satay Klathak Pak Pong, while exploring Yogyakarta’s vibrant local culture and hospitality.

Two participation packages are available:

- Package A (7 Days / 6 Nights): 16–22 December 2026

- Package B (5 Days / 4 Nights): 18–22 December 2026
